Five Days

This week is going to be intense at 2880 Dundas West. By the end of the week we are clearing out the shop and conducting a huge Contact party. Photographers in check, liquor on order, walls being prepped and a guest list that just won't stop. We wouldn't have it any other way. So we'll be seeing you friday then right?

Some new items in the shop include awesome books and awesome prints.

Heads up!

One date you need to mark in your books is May 1st. Contact is being unleashed in Toronto, and we have landed ourselves an awesome show. 'Three generations of Urban Portraiture' is a show that features three rad photographers that have, between the three of them, snapped hip hop and urban behavior for thirty years. Jamel Shabazz, Steve Carty and Che Kothari all are gifted with the ability to capture personalities and tell a story with their pictures.

Come out and see the show! Bar, Music, Art and a live photoshoot are happening here, at Smash / Jerome Jenner Gallery.

Sign sign, everywhere a sign

So I think its official, springtime is here. The signs outside are pretty clear, however at smash, our signs are a little bit off. Check it out:

We have a couple new things, which include military mess hall metal trays (get yer grub!) and sweet industrial lights. Also, we picked up a stack *literally* of doors. If you are looking for any of the above, come on in! Get some sun and have a wicked weekend.

Tomb of Eurysaces, a Roman baker, 50-20 BC

The unusual cylindrical holes are the exact size of one unit of grain. Is this a metonym, a synecdoche, or an allegory in architecture? I forget, but whatever it is, it sure is super neat-o.

Olivetti typewriter

I hate how design types always trot out the same mid-century designs over and over again. But I can't help it - dig this much-ballyhooed hot Italian typewriter.

Around the Shop

So it's April.......... when did that happen?
Smash has been busy with custom design work that we haven't gotten time to shop! New things in the store include a roll top metal desk. From Argentina and freshly ground down.

On an arty note, we are taking down some great art from Sheridan College Graduates that were a part of the birds and bees show (http://birdsandbeesshow.wordpress.com). If you are interested in some great pieces, check them out online and get in contact with us. We will put you in contact with the right people. Also we have put up some pieces of Jon Todd's art, in prep for his upcoming gallery at Yves Laroche (www.Yveslaroche.com) in June. This week he is starting a live art piece on one of our walls. This piece is going to be detailed, meticulous and a sneak peek of what he has in store for his Montreal show.
